ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Stephen

WHERE I COME FROM

I grew up in and around Boston, some suburbs, eventually landing in Belmont.  I spent a number of summers in VT, where I met my wife Myra.  Through most of my twenties I lived in Melrose, but when it came time to settle down, I knew Wakefield would be my home. I come from a large family where although we don't always share the same ideas, we will always stand up for one another and can always find refuge from a storm.  That is how I have come to feel about my Wakefield family.

A THRIVING CAREER

I graduated from Belmont High School. I tried college for a time, before working at a vocational agency for differently abled persons. I made a career change to construction where I worked as an electrician and project foreman for IBEW Local 103.  Having reached my potential in the construction field, I needed to create more opportunities for our family and decided to go back to college.  After six years of night school, while working full time and with the support of my family, I earned a bachelor's of science degree.  I then used my work experience and my degree to pursue another career.  I currently work for Biogen Pharmaceutical as a project manger in the technology field.

Approach

Rise to meet the challenge

The position on the Wakefield School Committee allows me to leverage the insights gained from the Woodville PTO and throughout my career as a construction project manager. I approach each challenge with an open mind, a commitment to sincere debate, transparent communication, and a sense of pragmatic optimism that we can solve the significant challenges in front of us. It is undeniable that the experience of COVID-19 has changed the landscape in ways that we never could have imagined, and that the recovery will take time and involve important and difficult decisions. The School Committee will face many critical issues; budget, curriculum, learning loss, education equity and opportunities for all learners, priorities for development and the new high school, that will be well-served by my open and focused approach to decision-making.
